The Alleghany Sub was formerly the stomping grounds of the mighty C&O 2-6-6-6 hauling many tons of coal throughout the region. In modern times, the subdivision still sees mostly coal traffic with a few exceptions such as the daily Q302/303 manifest, Amtrak Cardinal tri-weekly, and other trains.
