This week, my sister and niece and their golden retriever, Charlie, join us at the log cabin. The two dogs tire themselves out playing in forest during the dog days of summer, while moose feed in the marsh, bears eat my blueberries and raspberries and toads eat bugs. I start piling decaying logs into a hugelkultur mound in preparation for planting garlic this fall for harvest next summer.
