It is an upgraded version of the A979 with the following changes: - Enormous 540 can size brushed motor instead of a 390 size - Claims to run 70km/h instead of 50, which is absolutely crazy for a 1/18 scale car - Metal differentials, cups and driveshafts - 1500mAh, 7.4V LiPo with Deans / T-Plug connector instead of a JST one - The wheels are secured with two stacked locking nuts to prevent them from becoming loose - The biggest improvement is the remote controller with a much smaller steering dead zone around the center position! This change makes the car much better controllable. Very nice, WLtoys! There are upgraded -B versions of the following WLtoys cars available: A959, A 969, A979 This is part 2 of this car review: outdoor test / bash / jump / crash / race / donuts / drift / waterproof test in snow and water… Part 1 (unboxing, first look and a big surprise) of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0INjNnnBEI&t=358s I always try to be honest. So here are the pros and cons in my opinion. Pros: - Upgraded transmitter. It still looks the same, but is was a big surprise to see, that there is no dead zone around the steering center position anymore - Reasonable pinion and spur gear dirt protection, but not perfect. You can improve it by yourself, see link in the video - Robust, able to handle a lot of abuse, even if it’s freezing cold - Extremely fast. It may even be the fastest cheap 1/18 scale monster truck in the world - Spare parts are available, if you break something - LiPo battery and balance wall charger included - Waterproof. I would recommend to submerge it, but it still works fine after driving in wet snow and a wash down under tap water Cons: - Too much backlash in the steering mechanism (a metal upgrade available). So the directional stability could be better. - Short battery runtime with this enormous motor (may be better when it’s not freezing cold) - No ball bearings in the wheel hubs (you can easily replace the bushings with ball bearings) Conclusion: It’s a great truck for the price, but not perfect. But WLtoys is learning fast. Compared with the non-B versions, hey have implemented a lot of improvements. The -C version will have an improved steering mechanism - betting?
