Time: Spring 1980 Place: Somewhere in Germany -- A midge ridden wood on Soltau Luneburg Training Area Setting: A tracked tin box on tracks full of cigarette smoke and smelling of unwashed bodies while 40 Field Regiment Royal Artillery is rehearsing its role in the Third World War. This is the first dry firing exercise (i.e. no ammunition) on the first practice camp of the year with new officers and signallers.
