Lillian Grace’s Polymicrogyria Story: Thriving After Removing Half Her Brain HD

28.08.2015
Born with polymicrogyria, a malformation on the right side of her brain, Lillian Grace was suffering up to 300 seizures a day and had incredible hearing loss in her left ear. Caused by the very common cytomegalovirus (CMV) contracted by her mother while Lillian was in utero, the effects were devastating. It was ultimately determined the best treatment option was a hemispherectomy, the drastic surgical procedure of removing the right half of Lillian’s brain. The surgery was a resounding success and Lillian’s progress continues. She is now an energetic, full-of-life toddler who, through extensive rehabilitation, is helping the left side of her brain function for the right side.
