[TV ZONE] Major Intangible Cultural Heritage 12, Jinju Sword Dance HD

12.07.2011
Sword dance has the longest history among royal court dances. Though sword dances exist in various regions, Jinju Sword Dance maintains the original form of ancient royal court dances and was thus designated as a major intangible cultural heritage in 1967. Jinju Sword Dance is performed by a female dancer wearing a costume called jeonbok and a hat called jeollib holding a sword in each hand. A feature of this is the unique dance moves such as bangseokdori, yeonpoongdae, sukeun-siwi, and anjeun-siwi, which are not performed in other sword dances. Also, the wrists are turned a lot to move the sword made of nickel. Currently, Kim Tae-yeon and Yoo Young-hee have been recognized as Jinju Sword Dance Art Holders, and are thus retaining this tradition. We can experience Jinju Sword Dance through their graceful and exciting dance.
