Self-Powered Gesture Recognition with Ambient Light (UIST 2018) HD

We present a gesture-recognition module consisting of array of photodiodes. Photodiodes harvest energy from ambient light while instantaneously harvested power from individual photodiodes is exploited as clues to sense finger gestures in proximity. Harvested energy powers the entire module, including both sensing and running the gesture recognition algorithm, making the module completely self-powered without the need of battery.
