This is our 2017 edition of the “How to write a killer video blog script” process that we have been using for our clients here at the Vlog Pod. Some things have changed over the years, and some have stayed the same. It can be a daunting and confusing task trying to figure out how to write a video blog script, especially if it is for your own business. The system we have will help you engage, inspire and educate your audience in no time. Scripting for a Video Blog is very different to writing a blog article. Your audience expects you to provide value to them and they want to feel like you are engaging with them authentically rather than trying to sell them something. The pressure is also on to achieve this within a few minutes at most, especially if the video blog features you as a talking head. So, here is how we create Killer Video Blog scripts for ourselves and our clients. Step 1: Write an engaging HOOK or a “cold open.” The hook needs to be entertaining, and grab the attention of the viewer, making them want to watch more. So get rid of that fancy animated logo that swishes onto screen at the beginning of each of your videos, and replace it with… your face! People instantly connect with faces, we are hardwired to do so. Write your hook with the audience in mind, to peak their interest, intrigue and include something that encourages them to keep watching. Step 2. Introduce yourself and your business. This is where you can put your swishy animated logo and cut to a short introduction of yourself and what this video is going to teach the viewer. Brevity is key here - the quicker is better. A good tip here is to include an incentive for the view to watch until the end, such as a special offer or a trick you will reveal at the end. Step 3. Articulate the problem you are solving for your viewers. Meet your viewers where they are at, feel their pain and don’t be scared to relate your own experiences. Use simple language - no unnecessary jargon. Step 4. Provide a Solution. Make your solution simple and entertaining. Surprise and enlighten your audience and don’t spend too much time waffling on. Step 5. Summarise the main points in your video blog. These are the ‘take home’ points which can be listed or turned into a great one-liner. This is also where you can raise more questions with your audience to encourage them to keep watching more of your Video Blogs. Step 6. Finish with a clear call to action. A call to action will tell your audience what you want them to do after watching the video. You can make it social, or encourage them to connect with you. Remember, this is not a sales pitch. So there you are; our 6 steps to writing a killer video blog script. Hook, Intro, Problem, Solution, Summary and Call to Action.
