You know that IELTS Speaking is not like daily conversation. You cannot talk as if you were speaking to a friend and expect to score highly. Major differences can be seen in IELTS Speaking Part 3 as compared to normal speaking. Knowing how this section is similar to Writing Task 2 will help you make your preparation more useful and efficient. 1. Question topics Both Writing and Speaking Part 3 will ask about similar things, such as education, technology, or society. Two questions you may see in either Speaking or Writing: What are the advantages of working online? What are the effects of social media? 2. Linking words Even native speakers would not naturally use high-level, academic linking words in this part, but the examiner does listen for them. Remember, all of our advice for Speaking and Writing is directly connected to the scoring system! Examples of words you should use are moreover and nevertheless. 3. Vocabulary As with linking words, you must use high-level words in Speaking Part 3. For instance, instead of get, say obtain, and instead of use, say utilize. 4. Organization In both Writing Task 2 and Speaking Part 3, you need to provide strong opinions, supported by clear and specific details and examples.
