√ Understanding Simple Language Techniques | iitutor HD
https://www.primeeducation.com.au/ Not only do you need to be able to identify language techniques; you also need to understand how they are used, and the effect they create. Alliteration and Assonance are mostly used to alter the rhythm of a piece of writing, or create a pattern. The effects of these patterns vary; but they can affect flow, provide emphasis and use sounds in different ways. This technique is often used by poets and speakers to create sharp and meaningful messages. Hyperbole adds drama and impact to what would otherwise lack it. It can be used to create strong feelings. Hyperbole replaces a literal or ‘factual’ description in order to create interest or make a connection. Often used by news media, advertising and story-telling to get a reaction from audiences. All texts require audience connection to get their message across. Tone and mood are necessary to maintain this connection. Texts utilise feelings and emotions to attempt to absorb the reader, and to connect with them. Tone and mood can also create atmosphere, suspense, humour and drama. Imagery is more than just describing. It also refers to the way a text represents something. Imagery can represent ideas, emotions and concepts, as well as physical things, so a reader can see them. Through the right combination of imagery, for instance, any house can become a haunted house. Repetition is used to mostly reinforce or return to an idea or concept. It often reminds the audience of what is important, and can help to simplify a message in a memorable way. Rhyme achieves a different effect in the same way. It often links two ideas together and creates a pattern. Both represent strong, memorable ideas. Repetition is often used in speech and argument; rhyme in poetry and song. Onomatopoeia may not appear to have much effect; however it does represent sound where sound can’t be heard. In doing so, it helps with the creation of atmosphere and mood, and can be paired with imagery. Onomatopoeia helps to give a story life, energy, emotion and realism. Ensure you understand what a technique does and how it used. Understand how it develops meaning, a connection with its audience or creates an effect.
