UK - Cumbria Part 1, Two Steam Locos Battle Shap, 18th May 2019 HD
We were treated to a wonderful steam spectacle on Saturday 18th May, 2019 with two steam worked special trains fighting the hills of Cumbria, in the north west of England. The Lakelander and The Cumbrian Mountain Express both tackled the challenge of the Shap Incline on the West Coast Mainline within a few minutes of each other on their way to Carlisle, before returning southwards. The gruelling climb up to Shap Summit is featured here in Part 1 and Britannia proved, once again, what a marvellous locomotive it is, hauling a 12 coach train up the incline with ease, some of the coaches being modern air conditioned units, longer and heavier than the old Mk.1 coaches. The Lakelander returned via the coastal route around The Lake District and The Cumbrian Mountain Express returned via the famous Settle & Carlisle Line, over Ais Gill Summit - see Part 2 for these runs. Recorded on 18th May 2019.
