ECLIPSE 2017 - High Altitude Balloon Launch - Casper, WY HD
The Wyoming Space Grant took part in the Eclipse Ballooning Project (http://eclipse.montana.edu/) during the Great American Eclipse of August 2017. The main goal of the project was to live stream totality from a high-altitude balloon at 50,000+ ft, which we were successfully able to do. Our team name was the Wyoming Space Cowboys and was made up of folks from the University of Wyoming and Casper College. We launched from Casper College in Casper, WY, which was directly along the path of totality. After the eclipse passed, the balloon was able to ascend to over 93,000 ft before bursting. An experience to remember, that is for sure! Music © Chalk Dinosaur, “Cosmos” (https://chalkdinosaur.bandcamp.com/) Used by permission. We especially want to thank: • Casper College for their cooperation with this project and allowing us to use some of their facilities • The Montana Space Grant Consortium (http://spacegrant.montana.edu/) for organizing the nationwide ballooning project and providing us with much of our equipment and technical support • Stratostar (http://www.stratostar.net/) for supplying us with some of the other materials and additional tracking equipment we used during the launch
