Today’s news feed is brought to you by XFINITY, the future of awesome. I’m Erin Robinson and you’re tuned in to Clevver’s 2015 Trophy Life Oscar Coverage. What a night, what a night. Upsets, surprises, wins, losses, John Travolta and Indina Menzel jokes, Neil Patrick Harris making weird magic predictions, and more. Or less depending on your POV, but one thing that wasn’t lacking tonight: some classic “I told you so” moments. Because while there were some left field wins, the night mostly stayed on track with many folks’ predictions coming true including yours truly. But one bit of advice to keep in mind for tonight’s wins and our coverage is to please remember that movies are based on personal opinion and nothing more than that. That being said, Clevver is right and you’re wrong. The night’s biggest winners in terms of grand total Oscars was tied between “Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Birdman” with four wins each, though if we’re comparing apples to apples, “Birdman’s” Best Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture awards sort of place the film a little higher up when compared to “Budapest’s” four wins. “Birdman’s” Best Direction win came as some what of a surprise to those expecting Richard Linklater to take home the gold for pulling off a twelve year cinematic journey with “Boyhood”, but Birdman’s fearless leader, Alejandro Iñárritu’s flawless direction of a film about a man’s mental breakdown ultimately took the win. Plenty more wins were had and many of them, the “I told you so” type! From JK Simmons obvious sweep of the Best Supporting Actor category for “Whiplash” to Julienne Moore’s Best Actress win for “Still Alice” to Patricia Arquette’s win for “Boyhood.” For these three, there was no competition. Except in Emma Stone’s mind, apparently, as she held out for a win with her good luck Lego Oscar charm. And while Patricia took home “Boyhood’s” only win, JK wasn’t the only winner for Whiplash, with the film taking home Best Sound Mixing, which was pretty much a given, and Best Editing, which was somewhat of a surprise, overtaking “Boyhood’s” expected win. “The Imitation Game” ended up taking home just a single award with Best Adapted Screenplay for its first time screenwriter Graham Moore, leaving star Benedict Cumberbatch to go home empty handed. But I mean can we really be mad at Eddie Redmayne for taking home the Best Actor Oscar? The answer is no, we can’t. Because he was freaking incredible in that movie, y’all. And his speech was almost better. We thought we were excited for the win, but clearly not as much as Redm
