Retrohammer 9: Castellan Class Imperial Robot from 1988 and the Rise, Fall and Rise of the Robots HD

26.09.2017
Imperial battle robots are an immediately recognisable part of the present day Warhammer 40,000 battlefield whether it be in the form of the Mechanicus of M41 or the Legio Cybernetica and Mechanicum of the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. This however is a recent phenomenon, with such units being absent for most of the game history of WH40K. Please join me to explore the early history by examining the Castellan Class from 1988, arguably the most recognisable of these Rogue Trader era robots. As well as looking at this miniature the journey will take us back to the 1st Edition rulebook, early Chapter Approved rules in White Dwarf (and the fascinating program system) before returning to contemporary times. Here the reappearance of these deadly but sometime unpredictable machine creatures will be charted with their return to the battles of the grim dark future and understand the long, influential reach of the classic Castellan design.
