Firemaking in the Snow HD

24.03.2012
Another Dayhike in the Snow covered Pine Forest mountains. In This trip I decided to build a small fire for fun out of some deadwood. This was not for heat or cooking, as the temperature outside was nearly 65 degrees Fahrenheit. But someone asked me to make a video of firemaking in the mountains, so I did. We also made some lunch with our stoves out of a few Mountain House Beef Stew Meals, along with some chocolate covered malt balls. I also talk some philosophy on snow shoes and why they are not needed in these conditions. As you can see, I was dressed lightly in trail running shoes (with Smartwool socks), shorts and a t-shirt. Different conditions call for different tools, but I was perfectly warm and happy throughout this hiking trip. I did encounter a group of about 10 people, all geared up in expensive snowshoes and several layers of clothing - while I was sweating in shorts and a t-shirt. Of course I brought along extra clothing in the event that the weather changed. The items I used on this trip were: -Mora Bushcraft Fixed Blade Knife -Coughlans Tinder Kit -Light My Fire Firesteel -Bic Lighter -Ultralight Backpacking Stove (Noname brand) -IntenseOutdoorGear Pot -Picnic Tablecloth (Makeshift sitting pad) And the beautiful snowy mountains that nature provided us. As always thanks for watching, take care, and Peace! Filmed with Canon Powershot SX230 HS Camera. Music written and recorded by me. Guest appearance Youtube user dadpawise123.
