Chechnya- Russian soldiers refuse to abandon post

(25 Aug 1996) T/I: 10:51:07 In Chechnya, twenty Russian soldiers marooned on Sunday(25/8) at a checkpoint completely surrounded by Chechen fighters are refusing to give up their weapons and abandon their post. Chechen fighters drive past the concrete reinforced position everyday shouting at the soldiers and firing their weapons in the air. But the Russian troops have decided to stay on despite the ceasfire rather than be humiliated by their former foes.
