Motivation to End Racism Relies on "Yes We Can" Approach

When the phrase "Yes We Can" emerged as the winning 2008 presidential campaign slogan, millions of jaded Americans were inspired to believe in their collective ability to enact change. In a recent issue of Psychological Science, Tracie Stewart (Georgia State University) and colleagues show that in order to motivate non-minorities to end racism, they must first recognize that inequality exists and also believe that their personal actions against prejudice will be effective.
