IELTS Speaking Phase 2 - Describe your favourite family member HD
A native English speaker was asked to speak on this Phase 2 topic: “Describe your favourite family member.” This is what he said – watch the video and see if you can hear any useful vocabulary or phrases to use in your IELTS test: “So, I’m going to talk about my favourite family member. It’s a bit unfair to ask me to choose one family member above the other family members, I love them all equally. But if I had to choose one, it would have to be my wife.” “She is a very hardworking person. She has a lot of people to take care of, and she manages to do it, very well.” “There are a lot of demands on her time. For instance, we… her mother actually lives with us, and she has to be her nurse because her mother’s quite ill. She can’t walk. Now, that would be a full-time occupation for most people, but for my wife, she also has to look after a family as well. “ “She has to, you know, do all the washing, do all the cleaning – I try to help as much as I can but there’s not so much that I can do because I’m pretty busy myself.” “What I find most impressive about my wife is that she is able to listen to everybody’s problems and help deal with everybody’s problems. She… Despite having a very busy schedule and having lots of things to do, she’s always able to find time to talk to people, and talk about their problems, and she is always able to sit down and be a constructive part of people’s lives.” “When I have to make decisions about the family, we sit down and hammer the issues out, we make the decisions together, and generally, I think we make the right decision.” “So, I’m very impressed with my wife, I’m very happy that she is the way she is, and if I had to make a decision as to who’s my favourite family member, I think I’d choose her.”
