How to Score Highly in Vocabulary for IELTS Writing Task 2
Vocabulary, or Lexical Resource, is the third category you are scored on in IELTS Writing Task 2. For more advice on how to increase your IELTS scores, visit ielts.allearsenglish.com. First of all, you must show the examiner a range of vocabulary. This means you can’t use the same word too often. You must show the examiner your ability to paraphrase. So, if you have to talk about school, for example, don’t say the word school 20 times in your essay! Use paraphrases such as college/university/tertiary education/primary/secondary/high school. Also, use phrases such as place of learning. You must also use specific vocabulary to get a high score. You must do this by providing specific details and examples, as this not only increases your Vocabulary score but also your Task Response and Cohesion/Coherence scores. Also, you need to show the examiner interesting vocabulary to get a high score. Don’t just use the same vocabulary you got from a textbook, that all the other students are also using. In our online IELTS course, 3 Keys IELTS, we give you all the vocabulary you need, with explanations and practice, to ensure a good score in this category.
