Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright....The Tiger - a poem by William Blake The Tiger (Tyger) is one of the popular poems from Songs of Innocence and Experience by William Blake (1789) The work was illustrated by Blake who wanted to show the "two contrary states of the human soul." The Tiger is included in the Songs of Experience as a companion poem to The Lamb which features in "Innocence." Blake believed that the human struggle lay in the acceptance of good and evil rather than destroying the latter. His " Marriage of Heaven and Hell" investigated this issue further. Innocence and goodness alone was not enough as it lacked the energy that evil contributed. A balance was needed.... The Lamb is a sweet little fuzzy poem that one might sing to a child as a lullaby but it lacks truth and reality.....Jesus was the lamb of God but God also made the ferocious Tiger which is a killing beast.....how can this be resolved? "Did he who made the lamb make thee?" Blake asks.
