Toyota 2004-2010 Prius - Broken hatch piece and handle assembly

Toyota 2004-2010 broken hatch handle - This is a nightmare to work on this as you need to get a metal cowling interior tool from Pepboys or Kragen. This back piece is screwed in at the two outer areas and is very very poorly designed that makes it weak when someone tries to pull up on it, when it does not open. It will break off, and then you either need to replace it or fix it like I suggest. In replacing it, they only sell a primer-colored replacement, meaning you have to have it painted the color of your car. Not really necessary. There should have been a recall on this. Anyway, one item that I left out of the video is that you should prop the door open so you can put some heavy weights over the hatch piece left and right sides so the epoxy makes a good connection and solid bond to the pieces. Make sure you put the JB weld on the 4 points of the interior piece. Then put the clear silicon sealer across the top edge under the rubber edge and put some silicon on the bottom and sides of the hatch cover and then press down and put the weights on top with a towel or something to protect the paint. Then, while the hatch is up and horizontal, make sure you put a bead of rubber cement along the bottom edge. You need to run the rubber cement near the middle latch area so it is secure when you open and lift the door for years to come. If you do this right, I assure you it will never break again. Here is a reference on how to replace the piece or get into the back of the hatch cover. Remember use the Steel removal tool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzK1K6Oh8CU Best tool out there that you can use, make sure it has that black ball piece for leverage, its very important - https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-35260-Plastic-Fastener-Remover/dp/B0002SRCMO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1468210693&sr=8-7&keywords=Door+Trim+Removal+Tool
