This BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is a vocational qualification. There is a mix of practical and theory units, where you learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will gain knowledge about a variety of fields of Engineering, focussing on Mechanical and Electrical, but including a broad selection of subjects such as Pneumatics (technology powered by air), Hydraulics (systems with oil), Moving Mechanisms, Business Operations, Machinery and Tool Operation, Project Management, Robotics, Teamwork, 2D and 3D Drawing, Communication and other professional skills you need to start or progress a career. Throughout the course you will develop your knowledge and many practical and logical skills, which all culminates at the end of your 2 years when you do your own design and project from planning to designing to making to demonstrating! Our cutting edge equipment and facilities include 3D machining and prototyping, laser cutting, metalworking and woodworking workshops where you can be sure to acquire the skills needed to enter at the forefront of industry. BTEC Entry requirements 5 GCSE A*- C including English, Maths & Science. What will I study You will study 6 mandatory units and 11 specialist units (a few examples provided below and are subject to change) Assessment consists of internally assessed assignments for each individual unit Core Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace Communications fro engineering Technicians Engineering Project Mathematics for Engineering Technicians Mechanical Principals and Applications Electrical and Electronic Principles Suggested Specialist units Engineering design Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials Computer aided drafting (2D and 3D) Electro, Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems and Devices Teamwork in a Continuous Improvement Environment Assessment Assessment consists of internally assessed assignments for each individual unit. It is equivalent to three A-Levels. Progression There is a great shortage of skilled Engineers in industry at the moment, so this qualification is highly valued by prospective employers and universities. It offers a clear progression into either full-time employment, higher education or apprenticeships.
