Acoustic Guitar - Using the Mic Angle to Change the Tone HD

10.08.2017
Small diaphragms are versatile microphones that are often used for acoustic instruments because of their life-like sound, and quick transient response. However, they have a third benefit, and that is the off-axis coloration. This not only is great for having multiple musicians in a room, and you need the bleed of other instruments to be as less offensive as possible, but it can also be great for adjusting the sound of the microphone with the angle. With a simple adjustment of the microphone angle, we can change how the mic is going to record the acoustic guitar. We can expect big tone changes and it just takes a little bit of experimentation with the microphone placement. I found that in a higher position for the mic, it sounded better than having the mic lower. Small changes in mic position will have a big affect on the sound.
