I know most people use these for gold or hunting, but I am training my son to kick it up a notch and this will measure our make-shift fields from one park to the next, as well as track any improvements in speed. And sure, I figure I could even use it in the off season for chores around the house. Like determining how large a room is to mathematically order the correct amount of paint the first time around. Sure beats trying to hold out a flopping measuring tape that isn’t always long enough anyway. The learning curve isn’t complete yet, but Piper my dog has been helping me. And in fact, it was though her that I discovered that when measuring speed, you must not be swinging the Rangefinder around or you will measure the speed in which you are swinging it, rather than the object you are trying to gauge. It saves battery life by turning off each time you are finished. So if you wait a few minutes then go to use it again, you will need to turn it back on. Do this with a long press on the power, then the only other button is mode, where you pick what type of measurement you need, then a quick press on the power button starts the reading. The instruction book is very clear on how to use each setting, and it is very well written. The viewfinder has a large degree of magnification built in, so finding things far off is easy. Overall, I am very pleased with this tool, that it is price well, yet does more than a lot of the hunting/golfing rangefinders.
