WEST SOMERSET RAILWAY Many Years Ago Part 3 HD

26.02.2010
This time we look at Williton Station over twenty years ago. It had a useful Water tower then, and I was surprised when it was later taken away. There was an incident not many years ago when a loco almost ran dry at Williton and the Fire Brigade had to be called in to save the loco.Today there is a very large shed ex GWR Swindon that houses the railway restoration work that is carried out there. Also a railway van that houses the station maintenace facility is today a familiar sight near the road bridge. Some signals have also been taken away and platform lighting standards replaced. Back then some classic buses were stored in the yard for restoration. I wonder where they went? The station has had two different passenger bridges over the years but has none today.A replacement foot bridge has been stored at the station for erection as soon as funds permit. Originally the main road used the level crossing by the signal box. Way back in time there was a large water storage tank by the main road bridge too.The double track also used to extend over the rail river bridge. At the newly constucted Donford Beach Halt, the platfrom still awaited the addition of the pagoda waiting room.
