As for the story on this video, Ya know, sometimes instruments pick the songs for you. When I got the Sterling by MusicMan Ray 35HH Bass, I started playing the original guitar lick but on this bass and it just felt right and knew I had to do this song. From there I built/played the rest of the tracks keeping it simple on the instruments, but wanted the background vocals to take on their own character too. Maren Morris and Hosier killed it as a duet, so wanted to give it a multi-vocal feel but still just be me singing all the vocal tracks. For the instruments I wanted that classic J45 acoustic tone and the Collings acoustic couldn’t have shown up better. After that, add piano, a simple synth pad, and drums and that this track...vocals are covering everything else. Anyway, while challenging to record every track of instruments and vocals, this was so fun to work on. Making the video expanded the experience. I won’t say exactly how we got to do this shoot, but was an adventure you’ll surely hear about in a “making of” Paulcast here on the channel soon! Director Red, had so many challenges to work with but masterfully shot and edited this thing and we hope y’all enjoy!
