Reeves eventually returned to WWE on December 5, 2011 in a dark match battle royal and on January 2, 2012 defeated Michael McGillicutty in a dark match prior to Raw. On the January 6 tapings of SmackDown, Reeves reverted to his old ring name Ryback and defeated Jimmy Uso in a dark match. Ryback won victories over Percy Watson and Alex Riley. On the April 6 episode of SmackDown, Reeves returned to television under his Ryback ring name as a face and a member of the SmackDown brand, where over the following weeks, he would continuously squash jobbers, while other superstars watched backstage.
