Call of Duty Returns to WWII + Paid DLC Confirmed? HD
It’s official, Call of Duty is returning to World War II. The franchise’s official twitter account confirmed earlier leaks claiming the first person shooter would be set during the Second World War. By the looks of it, the game’s title will simply be “Call of Duty: WWII.” Activision isn’t providing any details beyond that, saving those for the game’s world-wide reveal on April 26th at 10 AM PDT at CallofDuty.com. The original Call of Duty launched in October 2003, and was also set in World War II – a far cry from the franchise’s recent sci-fi adventures. A great deal of the Call of Duty playerbase has grown tired of a futuristic setting, so a return to the game’s roots will likely be welcome news. As for potential locations, I’d expect we’ll know more on Wednesday – but looking at the key art released for Call of Duty WWII, the soldier’s M1 helmet shows water droplets. This could mean a return to the beaches of Normandy, a memorable location from Call of Duty II. The key art also appears noticeably more somber than some of the other flashier images we’ve seen for recent Call of Duty entries, so hopefully Activision and the developers are going for a more realistic and grittier feel. Unfortunately, it looks like Call of Duty is sticking with the same old terrible DLC system as before. CharlieIntel uncovered box art for the game’s Playstation 4 version on Amazon’s UK site, which not only shows the game will have DLC packs, but that PS4 players get 30 days early access. Amazon has since pulled the preorder page. While this doesn’t mean the game’s DLC won’t be free, it certainly doesn’t signal any major changes to their current business model. Again, we’ll know more on Wednesday, and yes, I’ll be covering the new Call of Duty game since it’s actually going to be based on a real-world conflict.
