21.04.2016
A man trapped in London needed to get home in due time for the birthday of his daughter, so he worked out an amazing idea. Reg Spiers Bonkers javelin thrower made the decision to take his clothes off and sit in a box for the whole trip from Australia to the other side of the world. In 1945, Reg came to Britain to recuperate from an injury, which disrupted his athletics profession, after barely missing an opportunity on the Tokyo Olympics. When he realized he wouldn’t make the Olympic, Reg made the decision to take up a job working at an airport to make some cash to take a flight home. However, during the journey, the unfortunate optimistic was mugged of his wallet having all of his cash while residing in the capital. He had to return to Adelaide in time for his daughter’s birthday, just a few weeks away. Having had many years of skill in the export cargo sector, Reg was a specialist in cash on delivery with freight. So, he set about constructing a custom-built box, which could fit him inside, together with a few fasteners to hold him while it was being transported. The outer part of the box was covered in paint and addressed to a phony Australian shoe firm. In the interior, he packed a blanket, few tinned food, pillow, a torch and two plastic bottles (one for relieving himself and another for drinking). Fortunately for him, luggage handlers in France thought that their English counterparts were playing a prank played on them. Reg then traveled to Bombay, India where he soaked up the sun and removed his clothes before making the final trip to his Australia home. When Reg’s crate arrived, luggage handlers were swearing regarding the dimensions of it but he did not want to give himself away; not just yet. Then when Reg arrived and his box was placed down on the ground, and it was time to rejoice. A book has currently been written regarding the adventures of Reg referred to as Out of the Box.
