The Tyndale Bible HD
Jesus’ words: “you will be witnesses for me,” had great significance to those who defended the English Bible! Hard to imagine, but in the early 1500s, having an English Bible in England was illegal! William Tyndale, set out to correct this injustice by illegally printing portions of his English translation of the Greek text, and having them smuggled into England and Scotland. He was eventually caught and condemned to death. Rather than being burned alive, he was sentenced to death by strangulation, a so-called “courtesy” given to educated men like Tyndale. In 1536, at age 42, William Tyndale the witness became William Tyndale the martyr! Unrepentant, Tyndale’s final pleas were reportedly for the King of England to have his eyes opened to allow Britain to have an English Bible. Engage with the Bible. A Book of all Books!
