July 18, 2019 New England Fishing Report with Toby Lapinski HD
Be sure to follow the weekly fishing reports across New England at http://www.thefisherman.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=directory.category&PDIR=24. Well, here I am back in good old New England after a week down at ICAST 2019 in Orlando, Florida. The Fisherman Magazine team was running hard every day from sunrise to sunset. Stay tuned over the coming weeks as we begin unveiling nearly 40 videos that we shot at the show, premiering and debuting some great new products with applications here in the Northeast. Until then, head on over to http://www.thefisherman.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=feature.display&feature_ID=2366&ParentCat=19 for a look at all of the “Best Of” category winners as voted on by attendees. And speaking of game-changing products, after last year’s salmon red Gulp craze by fluke fishermen of the northeast, Berkley set to creating a slew of awesome new colors, and we here at The Fisherman Magazine were the first ones to put the colors to the test. Head on over to http://www.thefisherman.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=feature.display&feature_ID=2359&ParentCat=9 right now for an exclusive video we shot a few weeks back fishing off Cape Cod along with reps from PENN and Berkley aboard On Time Charters with Capt. Jimmy. On the trip both Berkley Gulp and Fusion bucktails put a pile of big fluke on the boat including several double-digits topped off by a massive 14-plus-pound doormat! With colors like Blue Fuse, Lime Tiger Glow, Cajun Chicken, Curry Chicken, Red Belly Shrimp, Camo, Fire Tiger, Orange Tiger, Clear Red Fleck, Orange Belly Shrimp, Sardine and Mackerel, how could they not be killer baits? Keeping on the big fluke theme, I received an email from Fisherman subscriber Paul Boyce with a picture of a big fish that he landed this week, a 13-pound, 31-inch doormat. He was fishing on his Sailfish 240CC out of Mystic, CT. But you don’t need a private bot to get in on the good fluke fishing as the Black Hawk has been getting onto some large fluke to go with great catches of black sea bass and porgies on their daily bottom fishing trips out of Niantic. Capt. Greg takes the big boat to where the fish are biting whether that’s inside Long Island Sound, Montauk, Block Island or any of his top secret spots. I also heard from Fisherman subscriber, Catherine Skaperda. She was bottom fishing off Montauk over the weekend and got into a good mixed-bag of fluke and black sea bass including fluke to 5 pounds and a solid 2.5-pound sea bass. I talked with TJ Kopecky this week via email as he was unable to shoot a video. He said that scup fishing is very good right now in Mt. Hope Bay and upper Narragansett Bay and have even begun to fill into the Warren and Barrington Rivers. There are also some small black sea bass and the occasional keeper fluke mixed-in, and TJ landed all three species on a trip up that way over the weekend. On the striper side, he got word of a very good night bite on live eels around Newport and Brenton Reef with some really big bass
