Swan Lake, Nureyev, Vienna State Opera

Rudolf Nureyev created his now classic version in 1964; to mark the 50th anniversary of this early masterpiece by a ballet genius, the Vienna State Opera has revived his production for 2014 with new sets and costumes. The role of the Princess, one of the most difficult (double) roles in the entire ballet repertoire, and always viewed as the climax of any prima ballerina‘s career, is danced by Olga Esina, who delivers “a masterly performance in every respect”.
