Tai Phake Hand-loom Crafts

This short film is about the Tai Phake Community from Assam, India and their hand-loom crafts. This film was listed in the final fourteen of the WORLD CRAFTS COUNCIL FILM FESTIVAL - CHENNAI 2012. Tai Phake is the branch of the great ancient Tai race which migrated from Yunan province in China centuries back to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, North Vietnam and Myanmar. Tai Phake people entered Assam in India from the Howkong valley in Myanmar in the latter half of the 18th century. The Tai Phake believe in preserving their culture by wearing ethnic clothes which is hand made from cotton and silk. Most of the households have a hand loom and the Tai Phake women weave different clothes on them during their leisure time. These clothes are the SIGNPOST of Tai Phake culture...
