Tubular Cast-On in the Round
Demonstration of how to work an in-the-round cast-on that will match the tubular structure of Italian cast-on. This is useful for 1×1 ribbing on items such as hats or mitts. Basic formula is cast-on half the number of stitches you need; thus 1 stitch for each knit-purl pair. Work a tab several rows high. Knit across in waste yarn. Knit across in project yarn. Fold into the round. Work one round alternating slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, purl 1 in the running thread. Work 1 round 1×1 ribbing (i.e. knit 1, purl 1). If you weave in the tail the way I have, be sure to treat those doubled stitches as if they were one stitch.
