Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy) isn´t a typical cop. While his colleagues (including Jamie Bell and Imogen Poots) leave home to fight crime and injustice Robertson is figuring out how to make his associates life more difficult. For Robertson, who is known for his bad temper, his drug addiction and his inappropriate behavior towards everybody else, especially women, it´s kind of fun to weave a web of intrigues and plant rumors. When he´s getting the chance to get promoted he´s willing to do everything it takes to get this job before another one does. While helping to solve a murder case he´s keeping a wary eye on his colleagues. That´s why he´s doing what he´s best at. He´s provoking arguments between the other cops, sleeping with their wives and disclosing their darkest secrets. But quickly Robertson is becoming entangled in his own web of lies and frauds and even his wife Mary (Joanne Froggatt) gets involved. It´s getting harder and harder for him to take control of his life and suppress his memories of the past. Soon her realizes that the case of murder, his drug addiction and his colleagues are driving him crazy and he´s finally asking himself whether to continue to live his self-destructive lifestyle or to get his life back together again.
