2022 KTM 450 Factory Edition Impressions after 3-hours RIding (23 Platform) HD
Picked up a new 2022.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition. This bike is all new and very different from my 21.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition. Here are my ride impressions after riding it about 2.5 hours a Briarlciff MX, Grear MX, and a private farm... Engine: Big Power!!! This engine has significantly quicker turn over from low to mid compared to last years 21.5 450 Factory Edition. The new KTM 450 FE motor finally has almost CRF/KX450 quick turn over yet still keeps that Euro/KTM super smooth power build....definitely less throttle work required to go fast. How does 60 hp feel to controllable yet fun to ride!? The updated 22.5 450 Factory Edition engine feels more responsive in Map 1 totally stock than my 21.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition which had a full Akrapovic exhaust, myKTM app engine mapped to dial up the throttle response and minimize engine braking, aggressive throttle cam, 2-stroke air cleaner cage (no screen), and vented airbox cover. Map 2 on the new engine dials up the response even more for loamy track conditions. The new engine mapping runs clean and smooth and I have yet to stall the bike even while riding slowly on tight trails in the woods (here is my woods ride video..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sMdRVMKFEA&t=1s ) There is a little less vibration compared compared to the current engine but still more vibration than a YZ450F or CRF450R. Wish the myKTM connectivity unit came with this bike as I would turn down engine braking. I tried connecting a new myKTM connectivity unit I have to this bike and the connection was made but there is a bike error when trying to connect to the bike (there is no 22 kKTM 450 Factory Edition bike choice in the list of available bikes). Overall this is my favorite KTM 450 engine to date. Chassis: Planted is the best description. KTM traded some of that super lightweight feel at the handle bars (especially with AER forks) of the current chassis for a little more weighty feel up front and overall planted feel at speed. Still dives into the corners and ruts and has an agile overall feel for a 450F and is less busy up front in the chop at speed. The new beefier chassis gives the bike that precision feel of an aluminum chassis but still has the compliant bump absorbing feel of a steel frame. The egos feel about perfect with excellent contact between the rider and bike between the side panels and radiator shrouds. The new footpegs are so close to the frame your boots stay connected to the side of the bike. Never thought footpegs could make such a difference in connection to the bike. The seat foam is comfortable with a more squared off shape: less rounded and flatter on top. The seat is about 15mm higher which I noticed while riding in the woods but not so much on track. Suspension: This is the most heavily damped WP suspension setting I have felt on a KTM 450 to date (almost KYB heavy damping feel). There is little fore/aft chassis pitch under baking or acceleration. This gives the bike a
