Located just 18km from the city center, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is one of Chengdu’s most popular attractions. Visiting the Research Base is the easiest way to see famous giant pandas - native to Sichuan’s forests - outside of a zoo (there is a total of 9 giant panda scenic parks and 7 nature reserves in Sichuan). The enclosures here are spacious and well-maintained. The Chengdu Research Base is home to nearly 120 giant pandas and 76 red pandas, and visitors are even allowed to feed these shy animals.
