11.9 knots on the Sailing Rowcruiser! HD
Winds were up at Big Bear Lake in southern California by 8am. Looked to be a good day to test my recently built sailing Rowcruiser in relatively heavy wind. Hit 11.9 knots on a downwind leg of day. Fastest speed yet! A good friend asked if I could get the rowcruiser on a plane and I can now officially say i did! Broke a few boom straps i had sewed jibbing to aggressively. Also cracked the forward aka which i had plained down a little to thin. But thats what these tests are for! Better to find out these weaknesses in these safe CA waters then racing up the inside passage. Looks like I’ll be remaking the akas in the next week! I recommend for aspiring rowcruiser builders to hand plane them rather then cutting w a table saw. All in all, one of the best days on the water Ive had yet! Next trips include a Newport to San Diego run w my surfboards and a Catalina Island crossing! See ya next time!
