Drone Registration Service Launched by FAA HD

The US Department of Transportation has launched a “streamlined and user-friendly” online drone registration service. Since drones have been deemed “unmanned aircraft systems,” the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that even when operated by hobbyists, registration is required on drones that weigh 55 pounds or less. The registration comes after numerous reports have been filed of drones flying in commercial airspace, primarily around airports. There is a $5 registration fee that will be waived on drone owners who registers during December.
