Using Multirotors for Geological Mapping HD
In this project we have investigated how multirotors can be used in geological mapping, a field of great interest to the petroleum industry. Our idea was that a multirotor can be used for photography as a replacement for using traditional helicopters with cameras or laser-scanners. We have built our own hexacopter with a mounted camera. Pictures taken by this was used to create a virtual 3D model of an exposed stone wall. Our conclusion was that this solution to geological mapping is simpler, safer and more efficient; both from a time and cost perspective.
