A Song of Ice and Fire: House Blackfyre (Profile) HD
House Blackfyre was a cadet branch of House Targaryen founded in 184 AC by Daemon Blackfyre, a legitimized Great Bastard of King Aegon IV Targaryen, and is named for the Valyrian steel sword wielded by Aegon the Conqueror. Their sigil is a reverse of the Targaryen standard. Theirs being a 3 headed black dragon on a red field, while House Targaryen’s sigil is a 3 headed red dragon on a black field. And while we know that House Targaryen’s words are “Fire and Blood” we do not know the words of House Blackfyre. Daemon Blackfyre was said to be handsome, brave, skilled in combat, and chivalrous almost to a fault. Having all the traits many wished his half brother and then king Daeron II would’ve had. Being good at almost anything he put his mind to, some thought that he would also be good as king. For years there had been rumors at court, that Daeron was actually the bastard son of Aemond “The Dragon Knight” and not the previous king Aegon IV. This lead Daemon’s supporters chief among those Aegor Rivers another legitimized bastard, to push for him to claim the throne for himself. After years of court politics, in 196 AC the first of 5 Blackfyre rebellions was launched. Daemon and his allies sought to usurp the throne from Daeron, stating he was given the sword Blackfyre, because their father wanted him to succeed to the throne. And though there were a few battles fought during this rebellion, it all came to an end at the “Battle of the Regress Field”. Daemon along with his twin sons Aegon and Aemon were killed by Bryden Rivers and his elite group of archers called “The Raven’s Teeth”, while actually protecting a fallen foe from further injury. Proving that not keeping your focus on winning can get you killed. After the battle, Bittersteel along with Daemon’s surviving children and supporters, fled to Essos and would later go on to found the “Golden Company”. In 211 AC Daemon’s third, also named Daemon under the alias “Ser Jon the Fiddler” would attempt a second Blackfyre rebellion during the “Tourney at Whitewalls”. Unlike the previous rebellion, this one didn’t even get off the ground, after Daemon II was taken captive by Bloodraven and held hostage to ensure no further rebellion. Unlike the previous rebellion, this one was not supported by Aegor Rivers, and he even refused to give Daemon the sword Blackfyre. This may be due largely to the fact that Daemon was attracted to men instead of women, but no one knows for sure. In 219 AC the “Golden Company” lead by Aegor Rivers sought to put Daemon I fourth son Haegon on the throne in the third “Blackfyre Rebellion”. And while you think they might’ve learned by now, as the saying goes “A hard head makes a soft ass”. And again House Blackfyre was defeated. This time Bittersteel was captured and sent to the wall, against the protest of his brother Brynden Rivers. But before he could make it there to take the black, he was sprung free and taken back to Essos. Haegon on the other hand did not fair so
