Saginaw Spirit vs Soo Greyhounds 11/8/09 Dow Event Center Saginaw MI
The Saginaw Spirit swept the weekend and extended their consecutive win streak to six games, beating the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 6-3 Sunday night 11/8/09 at TheDow Event Center. Winger Josh Shalla contributed one goal and one assist, while center Tyler Murovich scored two goals in the effort. Winger Jordan Skellett added a goal and two assists. The win moves the teams record to 13-4-2-0 with 28 points on the season. The Spirit battled the Greyhounds through a scoreless first period, but opened open scoring in the second. Saginaw defenseman Nick Crawford (NHL BUFALLO SABRES) notched a power play goal in the second period at the 10:20 mark, with assists credited to winger Jordan Skellett and defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES). The Spirit were at it again, as center Tyler Murovich found the net at 12:10, tallying another power play goal for the team. Winger Jordan Szwarz (NHL PHOENIX COYOTES) and center Vincent Trocheck assisted on the play. The period ended with the Spirit ahead, 2-0. Winger Trevor Morbeck opened the third for Sault Ste. Marie, scoring a goal 25 seconds into the period. Winger Jordan Carroll and center Nick Cousins assisted on the play. The Spirit responded when center Ivan Telegin notched a goal at 4:14, assisted by winger Josh Shalla and defenseman Cody Sol (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS). Shortly after, Shalla scored at the 5:40 mark with a goal that was assisted by Brodie and Skellett. Skellett scored on the power play at 6:15 to move the score to 5-1 Saginaw, courtesy assists from Crawford and Brodie. The Greyhounds came back with two consecutive goals to reduce the deficit, The first was a power play goal at 11:01, scored by center Brett Thompson and assisted by defensemen Michael Quesnele and Jacob Muzzin. Sault Ste. Marie added another power play goal as Muzzin found the net at 12:55, with assists credited to winger Vern Cooper and defenseman Michael Quesnele. Despite the Greyhounds push, the Spirit sealed the deal with a late third period goal to move the score to 6-3. Murovich capped off scoring for the Spirit with an empty net goal at 18:31, with an assist from winger Joe Pleckaitis. Saginaw goalie Edward Pasquale (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS) finished with 26 saves while Greyhound goaltender Bryce OHagan posted 23 saves for the game.
