Record Store Day, Black Friday! You’re probably aware by now of the huge Record Store Day in April, but you might not know that there is also a smaller cousin, RSD Black Friday! To entice you away from the malls, on Friday, 11/29/19, we will have a slate of around 180 exclusive and early releases titles that are available only at brick-and-mortar independent record stores like Prex. There are some very cool pieces from The Doors, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Lizzo, Miles Davis, U2, James Brown, Paul McCartney, and many more! As part of the collectible appeal, most of these records have very limited production runs, typically from 100 to 5,000 pieces. They may also be previously unreleased recordings or alternate takes, and are often on colored vinyl, are numbered, have special packaging or are otherwise distinctive from standard issues. Below are answers to some of the more common questions we get about Record Store Day. 1) What’s coming out? The “official” RSD Black Friday list can be found here: www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases . 2) Are you going to have “that-record-I’m-looking-for” in stock? Sorry, we don’t know. We order a LOT of product, based on what we think we can sell, history with artists, “cool” factor, etc. However, many of these titles have very limited production runs, so they are allocated by the distributors to stores around the country. How do they decide who gets what? Beats us. The upshot is that we get most of what we order, but definitely not all of it 3) Can I reserve/prepay for a Record Store Day item? No, sorry, we are a Record Store Day “pledged” store, and as such promise not to do such things. We sell in-store first come, first served on that day and not before. 4) What can I expect if I show up? The store opens at 10:00 am., but people often line up earlier than that to maximize their chances of getting the rarer titles. (The line is for Record Store Day product only. You may shop the rest of the store without waiting.). The special product is in one area of the store and we let several shop at a time, then let the next batch in as space opens. Depending on where you end up in line, it can take an hour or more to reach the front. Please be aware that you may not find every item on your list.
