Old Gated Elevator @ Blegny Coal Mine, Blegny, Belgium

riding a cool old elevator. type : single rope traction, 3m/s The left car works as counterweight for the right car. dual-car system, but single doors. so the elevator stops 2 times when arriving at a floor. we rode it up from the -2 level (60m under streetlevel) to 1 (10m above street level) i went in the top car, so i rode it up a little, then the rest of the group stepped in the bottom car, then we went up. it was very dark in the elevator, because there is no light, you can hear the car scratching various things when moving. Type : single rope traction, 3m/s Floors : 4 Floor 1 : 10m above street Floor 0 : street Floor -1 : 30m underground Floor -2 : 60m underground Capacity : 16 persons per cab, we went into 2 cabs with 35 persons but it seemed like it could handle that without problems. Built : 1942 (this is the newest shaft, built after the 1th world war) there are no buttons or indicators, this elevator is still controlled by a operator, who sits in the control room and controls the elevator, the guard in the elevator tells the operator by the intercom that he need to start the machine. this is a very cool and interesting elevator.
