The British premium automobile manufacturer strengthens the progressive character and appeal of its models in the small car segment with a stylishly refined visual appearance and extensive technological advancements. The update for the MINI 3-door, the MINI 5-door and the MINI Convertible includes fresh design accentuations, innovations in the field of drive technology, additional customisation options and an expansion of the digital services available as part of MINI Connected. The upgrading of the original product substance in the premium segment of small cars highlights the mature yet distinctive charisma of MINI, which in its current model generation is now available for the first time with three body types for hallmark driving fun in urban traffic. This is due to such elements as the new engine-transmission combinations, an extended range of standard features, newly designed headlights and rear lights, additional body finishes and cutting-edge connectivity technology for convenience and infotainment. The 2019 Hardtop, in both two- and four-door configurations, as well as a refreshed Convertible. The 2019 version goes into production in March. In the U.S. market, the changes it brings are purely cosmetic. Other markets see powertrain revisions as well, and those may come to the States at some point. Engine choices remain the same, with the Cooper featuring a turbocharged three-cylinder engine that makes 134 horsepower and the Cooper S using a 189-hp turbo four. The U.S. models keep the standard six-speed manual and optional six-speed automatic transmission; other markets get a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox or an eight-speed automatic. The 2019 model sports a new Mini logo, which adopts a contemporary two-dimensional design that henceforth will grace every Mini model. The optional LED headlights feature a new look, and ordering those headlights also brings new LED taillights with a British-flag design. The list of new extras includes a backlit dash with yet another Union Jack motif, plus there are new wheel designs, three new colors, a new brown leather upholstery option, puddle lamps that project the Mini logo onto the ground, an updated 8.8-inch touchscreen navigation system, and Apple CarPlay. The individualization program, Mini Yours Customised, lets you add custom-designed 3D-printed parts to the dashboard and to what Mini calls “side scuttles,” the exterior side-mounted turn-signal surrounds. Mini will monitor you more closely than before with the standard emergency-call and connected-drive functions, and there is a new interface for the standard center screen. The drive-mode selector, previously a cheap-feeling collar around the gear-shifter trim, is now a toggle switch. The styling tweaks and changes to optional equipment aren’t a huge deal, although they loom slightly larger here than they might with other cars, given Mini’s rabid following and the brand’s laser focus on design and personalization.
