During a masquerade, seven rooms are decorated each in a different colour. The last, decorated in black and illuminated by a red light, seem to frighten most. In this room there also is a large clock that chimes each hour. At midnight a figure in a black, blood-spattered robe crosses the halls, wearing a corpse-like mask. Enraged by its presence, Prospero follows the figure through the rooms. In the last room, the figure turns and Prospero falls dead.
