But you and I, we have something in common - a beating heart. You’re human, and so am I. The mosque shooting at Christchurch New Zealand is one of the most horrific acts of violence, where someone decided that their life is more worthy than the lives of the people praying in that mosque. It’s not just wrong, it’s completely senseless - How does taking other people’s lives make our own more valid? It is not true is that some of us are more superior than others. There is no such thing as someone more deserving of life - the fact that we exist means that we are meant to be here on this earth. We all are. We all die, and we often don’t get to determine how we die, and we certainly don’t get to decide how someone else dies. We don’t get to play God - we don’t even know why we are alive, so how dare we decide who should or shouldn’t live? What has happened can never be taken back, the lives of the families of victims’ will never be the same again and the world as a whole has been shaken to its core. The massacre in Christchurch was meant to send a very clear message. But we can also send a very clear message to the world - that we believe in humanity. In our every day lives, we can practice inclusion instead of division, we can consciously decide to not judge, not discriminate and not hate, not even the people we don’t understand. We need to make our stand, by deciding what kind of human being we want to be, and who we’ll be teaching our children to be. Sending all the love and light in the world to the people affected by this tragedy, either directly or indirectly. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you.
