This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Pole vaulting is challenging; so is grappling with the beautiful complexities of life. Everyone should try both. Levi Bachmeier, West Fargo, ND, currently serves as the department chair of the social studies department at Crazy Horse High School in Wanblee, South Dakota. Working on the Pine Ridge Reservation as a member of Teach for America, Levi and fellow corps members are striving to close the academic achievement gap between affluent and low-income students. Graduating in May 2014 summa cum laude with a degree in social studies education from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN), Levi served as Student Body President and captain of the men’s track and field team. He was a co-advisor of the Fill the Dome food drive in 2011 and 2012. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
