3D Printed Tripod HD
I was needing a mounting solution for my RunCam 2 so I wanted to get a tripod. Of course, I looked to Thingiverse first and found a great looking tripod that was the perfect size. I like how the legs fold in and it becomes compact and easy to carry. You will see in the video that my first go at printing the leg base assembly did not go well and I broke 2 of the 3 legs off trying to get them to open. I was able top fix this issue by printing the same leg piece but I scaled it up 105% to increase the clearances. I used hex cap bolts instead of hex head so that the ball could rotate on the tripod base. My preference either type of bolt will work. I do think this is a great tripod for showcasing how you can 3D print joints in place, but the joints themselves are not as strong as I would have liked. That being said if you are needing a tripod you can depend on and not treat delicately then I would recommend looking on Amazon and getting a cheapo tripod. This is a functional print that holds a camera or mic well but the leg joints are not quite robust enough to allow me to use this on a daily basis. For a desk tripod that does not get manhandled much, this would be perfect. Watch the end of the video to see some new flight footage!
