Filming for Wolverine 3 has begun and we know…well basically nothing. What we have known for some time is that director James Mangold and Hugh Jackman would be teaming up for a final outing with the former Weapon X, but beyond hints that the film’s story would potentially bare resemblance to the “Old Man Logan” comics, we haven’t heard much, rumors or otherwise. Recently though, producer Simon Kinberg stated the film would take place in the future and will in fact be rated-R. This was great news for fans of the ultra-violent Wolverine who hasn’t yet had the chance to go all out with beserker rage being previously held back by a PG-13 rating. As far as casting, in addition to Jackman, we also know he’ll be joined by Patrick Stewart as “Professor Xavier” and Richard E Grant will be playing some sort of mad scientist. We also know that Boyd Holbrook will be playing a new, original villain created just for the film, described as an intense head of security for a global franchise, but thanks to Nerdist News, we may now know who the ultimate threat against Wolverine will be. A quick warning before we continue, we will be covering some potential spoilers for both Wolverine 3 and X-Men: Apocalypse, so proceed at your own risk. In the comics, the Reavers are lead by a man named “Donald Pierce”, a former member of The Hellfire Club, a name you may remember as the main villains in X-Men: First Class lead by Kevin Bacon’s “Sebastian Shaw”. Pierce organizes The Reavers into a team dedicated to eradicating the Earth of mutants, specifically the X-Men. This certainly sounds up the ally for a Wolverine movie and could fit into the future timeline of Old Man Logan with Pierce and his Reavers potentially filling the roles of the Hulk Gang in that version of the story. Knowing that Richard E Grant is playing a mad scientist, it doesn’t seem too far of a stretch to think he could be playing “Donald Pierce” himself, with Boyd Holbrook leading Pierce’s security force. It’s possible that Pierce has even reformed The Hellfire Club for his own nefarious purposes. In the comics, Pierce makes use of several mutant members of The Hellfire Club and even recruits the female Wolverine clone known as “X-23” amongst others. X-23 has long been rumored to be introduced in the film and is potentially teased in the end credit scene of X-Men Apocalypse that shows an unknown
